Mission Statement of Purposeful Africa

We are called to provide a vessel for Purposeful Africa so that you can engage in where God is working. We need people with vision, talent, experience and influence to partner with our churches and ministries to work with God’s people.

Our newest ship‐based and mission‐identifying opportunity, Purposeful Africa gives you a chance to visit the most compelling land in the world and become as engaged as you want. You will be visiting, selecting and mapping sites for future mission work, laying the groundwork to help those in need. Our goal is to increase access to Africa, while providing elements of comfort, quality transportation, security and seamless planning. On this trip, you can also explore the roots of Africa’s history and legends, visit the river deltas, jungles and winding river communities, and see firsthand the hard realities in the daily lives of people born in these areas. You will also share the importance of bringing help and hope, and partner with local and international ministries in outreach, community building and introducing sustainable living practices. Purposeful Africa is about being a part of the solution, extending the reach of our care, partnering under the premise of servitude and putting our faith into action. By combining our resources, education, organizations and talents, not only can we make a difference, we have a unified ‘Purpose.’ We have numerous ways for you to join us.

Purposeful Africa: Overview

In the fall of 2010 we will embark on 6 consecutive cruises (10-15 days each); take one segment, a few, or all of them. Come let our Purposeful Africa ship-based project give you a chance to serve softly in the mission field while seeing majestic, exotic Africa.

On this enlightening journey that utilizes a passenger ship with facilities for storage, we explore the very roots of Africa’s history and legend. The visits to the river’s deltas, jungles, and winding river communities will provide you with insight that is virtually unknown to most. You will see first-hand the hard realities in the daily lives of people who live in these areas; but you’ll also share the importance of hope and your longing for others to see and experience God’s grace and love in action. We’ll work with local and international ministries in discipleship outreach, educational and health programs, building projects, orphanages, plus we’ll support the huge, evangelistic missions that have taken place in their communities. Please JOIN US at work with God!

Be ready for adventure and wonders! In addition to engaging we’ll have an opportunity to see a new world of care plus amazing African wonders! We will see the rare pygmy hippopotami, hyena, elephant, camels, and all sorts of baboons and monkeys during the safaris and excursions. We will be a part of the small fishing villages where you can work in tandem with local ministries to assist them with vital needs. Afterwards be ready for them to take you game-fishing. When you return to the ship our chef will even prepare your catch! The lifetime opportunities are endless.

Living Passages: The Initial Organizing Group:

Living Passages is a for profit company who works in tandem with not-for-profit 501(c)3 organizations and specializes in Christ-centered projects and events. The events are either conferences on board privately-chartered cruise ships or events that provide soft adventure and missions services to His people around the world. We partner with people, churches and organizations to help them attain their God given visions. Frequently, we partner with media companies, conference organizers and ministries. We are members of the International Christian Chamber of Commerce, International Air Transportation Association, African Travel Association, National Religious Broadcasting Association, Finishers and Christian Connections for International Health and many more localized groups. We are located in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and Springfield, Missouri.

I Corinthians. 12:7–11 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.

We facilitate need-finding trips, often in tandem with a large ministry or organization. Part of the struggle of helping those in third world countries is determining and validating specific needs of specific people. These journeys are about matching those with resources on one end with those with immediate or long-term needs on the other. Past examples of our trips—by cruise ship, luxury sail and land-based excursions—have helped us locate and aid in orphan care, deliver medical personnel and supplies, set up school programs, agricultural training and assist in small business ventures for women in Ethiopia, Kenya and West Africa.

At Living Passages, we delight in bringing together individuals and organizations with like-minded goals, who are seeking to pursue Biblical understanding, as well as those seeking to alleviate pain, poverty and slavery. We offer our connections and liaisons across the globe, planning & logistics, travel expertise, Biblical teachers and archeologists and twenty plus years of experience—to those who desire to come together and seek God. Join us in God’s work in West Africa!
