One of the key ministry opportunities that Purposeful Africa desires to facilitate in West Africa is Business as Mission (BAM). While the phrase Business as Mission is relatively new; the concept is not. There have been many businesses around the world who have been engaged in mission for decades. For those who are new to the concept of BAM, here’s a brief definition courtesy of The Lausanne Movement:
Business as Mission is about:
* real, viable, sustainable and profitable businesses;
* with a Kingdom of God purpose, perspective and impact;
* leading to transformation of people and societies spiritually, economically, socially and environmentally,
* to the greater glory of God.
As we continue to refine the journeys of Purposeful Africa, we will be offering more information about BAM opportunities that we have identified in West Africa. We pray that you God will move in the hearts of business owners who will be excited about how their business may make an impact for the Kingdom of God.
Recently, we have come across two great articles that discuss BAM. We encourage you to visit these websites and read them:
Business as Missions
Catalyst conducted separate interviews with three highly regarded business as missions (BAM) practitioners and compiled their answers in this article. We were particularly interested in the intersection of BAM with the local church and agency.
The Church and Business: Working Together in God’s plan of Redemption via Kingdom Business
Most people don’t have a full appreciation of the church and of business, much less an appreciation of how they should work together to accomplish God’s plan to redeem mankind and the earth.
